Don't Get Left Out In The Heat: 4 Signs Your Air Conditioner Needs Maintenance

Summer is in full-swing. If you're in the middle of heatwave, you want to stay as cool as possible. Unfortunately, that's not always possible, especially when your air conditioner chooses the hottest part of the summer to break down. Luckily, there are a few tell-tale signs your air conditioner might present you with that will help you identify potential problems before they lead to full-fledged malfunction. To make sure your air conditioner doesn't experience a full-blown breakdown this summer, here are four issues you should be on the lookout for.

There's a Faint Hissing Sound

If you hear a faint hissing sound coming from your air conditioner, it could be a sign that you have a leak in your refrigerant line. Unfortunately, a refrigerant leak can spell disaster for you air conditioner, and the environment. As soon as you hear a hissing sound, turn your air conditioner off, and contact a repair technician as soon as possible.

You See Ice on the Coils

If your air conditioner coils are covered in ice, you could be looking at a couple of issues. First, the air conditioner could be running non-stop, leading to an overheating problem. Second, your refrigerant may be low, which would coincide with the hissing sound described above. Finally, there could a problem with the fan, which is interfering with proper air circulation. You'll need to have your air conditioner inspected before you're facing a major breakdown.

Warm Air is Coming from the Vents

If your air conditioner is running, but you've only got warm air coming from the vents, you're looking at a problem with your compressor. Once you've got warm air coming from the vents when the air conditioner is running, you're going to need to have your compressor replaced. Turn the unit off, and schedule an appointment with your repair technician.

The AC is Squealing

If you're hearing a high-pitched squealing sound coming from your air conditioner, your fan belt may be about to snap. If that happens, you'll need to have your entire air conditioner repaired. Don't wait until the squealing gets worse. If your air conditioner is squealing, discontinue use of your air conditioner, and schedule the repairs. It's important to note that if the squealing is accompanied by the smell of burning rubber, you need to turn your air conditioner off immediately. The belt is overheating, and melting.

Don't get left in the heat. If your air conditioner is experiencing any of the problems listed here, contact a repair technician near you.

Learning All About Plumbing Materials

Hey everyone, my name is Marcell Robins. I am excited to share information about plumbing supplies on this site. Plumbing repair services caught my attention after a pipe burst during the last winter storm. The temperature dropped so quickly that we did not have time to prepare the home for the changes. As a result, one of the pipes running under the laundry room froze shut and popped open at the seams. When the water thawed, it started leaking like crazy beneath the house. It was at that point that I started to learn about the wide range of materials used for plumbing repairs. I want to share that knowledge with you to help everyone correctly maintain the plumbing components throughout their home. Thanks for coming to my website.
